If you notice in photography, I have this obsession with the colors of sunsets, the way it saturates the sky and covers the afternoon in this purple and pink glow. The way the sun sets and creates this mystical ethereal mood.
I’ve always held this idea, that there are certain times of the day, certain locations, where reality is sort of distorted. Think of hospital waiting rooms, empty parking garages, the beach at night, all places where for a moment it’s almost as if you’ve stepped into an altered reality.
A place where for a moment, nothing but what’s around you matters and you can actually think clearly. For me that’s what sunsets creates, a moment in the day where time stands still and gives me complete mental clarity.
Go ahead, try being upset while watching a sunset.
This is why I’m so obsessed with road trips. You leave work, get home, grab your bag, your dog and and drive, while the road absorbs your worries and the further from your troubles you get, the more you stretch the chain attached to your back.
How far do you need to drive before that chain snaps and you’re free?
