While Loli was struggling to figure her life out in the U.S., Armando was taken by officers to plead his case, they knew he had ties to the Cuban government and in order to earn his freedom he had to pledge himself to the U.S. They had him working as a double agent, giving the American’s information only someone on the inside could know.

He treated his trips to the U.S. like mini-vacations, and returned to Cuba frequently to serve his leader, he worked closely with other officials, meanwhile he continued feeding intelligence to the CIA who treated him like he was expendable.

Everything he did to appease the Cuban government left an awful taste in his mouth, knowing the only way he’d be able to see Loli again was if he’d do as both governments told him. The Cubans weren’t dumb, they almost immediately caught wind of what he was doing and began feeding him false information, the U.S. noticed and returned the favor, both sides giving false information hoping he had loyalty in one or the other.

Regardless, both sides paid him, and both sides provided him with security and safety, something he’d need if he was ever to see Loli again.

Armando was stuck in the middle of two waring countries, and all he could do was buy time and wait.
